Texas AI Law Imposes New Disclosure and Consent Rules
Texas has passed one of the broadest state-level AI laws in the U.S., set to take effect in 2026. The law requires businesses that use generative AI in consumer-facing contentāsuch as chatbots, marketing messages, or automated communicationsāto clearly disclose when consumers are interacting with AI. It also mandates consumer consent before using AI to make certain impactful decisions, like those affecting housing, employment, or credit.
Covered entities must keep records, follow specific notice requirements, and establish internal policies to demonstrate compliance. The law applies to both companies that develop AI tools and those that use them. Businesses operating in Texas or offering services to Texas residents should start reviewing their AI use cases now to prepare for future enforcement. Read more.
