Lawmakers move to restrict AI tools from China

A bipartisan bill called the No Adversarial AI Act has been introduced in both houses of Congress. If passed, it would ban U.S. executive agencies from using artificial intelligence models developed in China, including those built by DeepSeek. The proposal follows a Reuters report that linked DeepSeek to China's military and intelligence efforts. Read more.

State Department begins mass layoffs under reorganization plan

The U.S. State Department has started laying off more than 1,300 employees as part of a sweeping reorganization led by the Trump administration. Notices were sent to 1,107 civil servants and 246 foreign service officers based in the U.S.

Employees were informed Friday morning that their positions were being abolished. By 5 p.m., they would lose access to the department’s headquarters, email accounts, and shared drives. Read more.
