EU Finalizes AI Code of Practice Ahead of 2025 Law
On July 11, 2025, the European Commission released the final version of its Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI (GPAI). This document is designed to help AI model developers align with the EU AI Act, which takes effect on August 2, 2025.
The Code focuses on three areas:
Transparency in how AI systems operate
Copyright compliance for training data
Safety and security for high-risk AI models
The Code was created through a multi-stakeholder process and reflects expert input. However, it is voluntary—meaning companies can choose to adopt it, but doing so does not guarantee legal compliance under the EU law. It may be used to demonstrate best practices, but it doesn’t carry binding authority. Read more.
